"Svend" (svend)

Okay so I posted on this car the other day and edited it with some new pics yesterday.
So I will make this my last post on this great car.
It's the new flagship model and due out next year with orders for them starting in september of this year.
As with all Skodas it's the small touches like the rechargeable torch and dock in the boot and the umbrella in the rear left hand door but now there will be two umbrellas located in the front doors.
The design mixes some of the Concept C and the current facelifted Superb Mk2.
with the clamshell bonnet looking almost seamless.
The head lights don't so much give it an aggressive look as much as it gives the car a more 'purposeful' look.
Take a look at the video below.
I think this is going to be a great seller with prices starting at the same as they are now of GBP£20,000 (USD$30,680) on the road.

"now there will be two umbrellas located in the front doors."
This may well be the most important detail of the Mk3. No longer do driver and front passenger need to argue about who gets wet.
The Mk4 will have a brolly for each door.

It's just one of the many small almost insignificant bits that make up into a very well thought out package.
The thing was that there was one umbrella but it was on the rear left hand door regardless whether the vehicle was left or right hand drive.
Though I've only ever used mine three times in two years but that is because I live in a very wet part of the country and so always go out with a waterproof coat.

If I was one of those people who have to do a ton of motorway miles per year for work, this is what I'd buy. One of the best value cars on sale.

Friend has a Mk2 as a taxi and put over 100,000 miles (in around three years) on doing short inner city and long distance (airport transfer) journeys. One trip was from Annan, Scotland to London then back up to Carlisle (just short of the Scottish border) some 650 miles in 14 hours with only short fuel and toilet stops. Said he was mentally tired from all that driving and concentrating but otherwise he felt fine with no aches or pains.

I normally don't like VAG products because dodgy reliability, but I would so own a modern Skoda. It just makes so much sense.

The reliability of Skodas really is fantastic. Many have been tempted into buying their first Skoda from other VAG stable mates and other brands such as Volvo and Mercedes.

I've had a good look around a mk1 at a motor show and the interior is above average for the price. You can spend about the same on a Mondeo and their long haul comfort doesn't even compare. My grandad used to drive for a rental company delivering cars to depots and what not and he always enjoyed getting a Superb for long haul stuff too.
I'm actually considering getting one in a year or two, it'll have to be the little 1.6 diesel though most likely. Depends how long this piece of crap Panda survives.

The Mk1 was literally a rebadged Passat but I think the interior was better.
The Mk2 1.6TDi is a very good unit (it's the one I mentioned that a friend has as a taxi).

If it'll survive nicely as a taxi, it's good enough for me. I want something practical, reliable, comfortable and decent looking. Ticks all of the boxes.

There are loads of Skodas as taxis where I am. Octavia Mk2 and 3 (some vRS), Rapids, Superb Mk2 and Mk2FL (facelifted). Some are really abused but keep going.
My friend is currently staying at his friends villa near Malaga and he took his car with him for his three month stay. He's done the journey a couple of times or so and the Skoda just eats the miles (1,700 miles in 30+ hours).

In my hometown almost every taxi was an octavia, but here in newcastle they're less common. Many are mondeos and passats. There are loads of over a decade old VW Sharans that look and sound like scrap rolling around too. Some of them must be closing in on 500k miles.

And shed loads of Peugeot E7 Series 1 and then Peugeot Premiers.
Every damned taxi at the train station was an E7 when I went across. Hit a bump and they sound like they'll rattle apart.
Not forgetting the Fiat Freedoms.

There's a fair few of those Fiats around here too. They're mostly 2007 or newer though so not quite on death's door yet.

Of course of you listen to the Americans they'll tell you that any VW group product will break down daily and cost a fortune each time and everyone knows that and you'd be better off with some lhd fuel guzzling monster. And so on and on.

No love for the Avensis? It's the default taxi here with the Octavia some way behind.

Ye', everytime I go to Newcastle the ranks are full of these things.
Carlisle is all Skodas, Peugeot Eurobus', Mercedes Vianos and Vitos, and odd ones here and there.

VW to me is uninspiring (other than the Scirocco that is) to me. But Seat and Skoda do extremely well. Audi owners just throw money at them or replace them.

I see one or two old ones, but everyone seems to have forgotten Toyota sell anything other than the Yaris and Rav 4. I very rarely see new Toyotas anywhere.
